Abbey range gets better specification and new soft furnishing schemes

07/09/2005

Following recent major exterior improvements, designers have given the interior of each Abbey range a fresh new look for 2006 whilst prices for the GTS and Spectrum ranges are reduced by £250 and £400 respectively despite heightened specification to make them even better value.

All layouts in the Aventura, GTS Vogue and Spectrum ranges benefit from new soft furnishings and the latest in spaceframe technology which has made seats strong and precision-built and gives easy access to generous storage underneath. Lockers in the Aventura are also built with spaceframe technology, which allows reading lights and cable runs to be built-in.

The Spectrum and Aventura now have big 107-litre fridges with stylish curved doors and full-width freezer compartments and the Spectrum has a microwave oven as standard.

GTS Vogue and Spectrum models offer plenty of entertainment facilities including a radio/CD/MP3 player and a socket and wiring for an optional DVD player.

Other high specification features in the GTS Vogue and Spectrum ranges focus on security, including an alarm system and the new AL-KO Secure portable wheel lock while Aventura models benefit from new washroom designs for separate showering.

Fresh new look for Aventura interior

At the top of this nine layout range is the twin-axle 340 with family accommodation for up to six, with end washroom and fixed side bunks. The 330, a best selling single-axle 6-berth, has been improved with a new rear shelved corner wardrobe and window for each of the two rear bunks and table storage now next to the side dinette. The 317, new last year and already very popular, is a shorter fixed bed model, ideal for smaller cars.

Last year saw all models widened to 7’4” wide with a redesigned rear panel with light clusters and high-level brake light and re-styled front panel with new style windows. There is an AL-KO “Euro” hitch with two-way assisted handbrake and an AKS 3004 stabiliser to help prevent “snaking”. The jockey wheel stores away inside the ‘A’ frame moulding, giving more clearance for manoeuvring.

Individually designed alloy wheels display an attractive Abbey badge on the centre bosses while the spare steel wheel is mounted on an underslung AL-KO carrier near the axle for ideal weight distribution. A wet locker with external access is provided for wet or muddy items.

New soft furnishings in contemporary Dakar green, help to create a relaxing interior and are complemented by loose fit carpets, which are easily removed for cleaning. Lockers are precision-built thanks to spaceframe technology, which has transformed the touring caravan industry. It means reading lights and cable-runs can be built-in.

Seats, too, are made with spaceframe technology and materials to create more usable space underneath with easy access via the full-front access flaps.

Two bolster cushions and two scatter cushions are useful because they can be used as armrests or pillows. All models have a clear, opening, panoramic Heki rooflight with blind and flyscreen, mounted in the front lounge, and some models have a second one.

Kitchen space is generous and includes a 107-litre electronic ignition fridge with attractive curved door. There is plenty of space as well as a salad drawer, full-width freezer compartment and single energy selector which enables the selection of gas, electric or 12V mains by turning just one switch. The dual fuel hob has three gas rings and one electric ring, to save gas if needed, gas grill and full size oven.

Aluminium double bed frames are strong and lightweight and provide easy access to generous underbed storage space. For 2006 some models benefit from new washrooms featuring a washbasin and mirror on a wall, which pivots to create a dry area for the toilet and wash handbasin and a wet area for showering. All models now have separated showering areas in washrooms with modern equipment including a Thetford cassette toilet.
